Diablo 4 High Resolution Assets: Should You Use Them?
Updated: June 04,2023
When first installing the new Diablo 4 game, you may notice that the installer offers an optional high-resolution pack along with the full game install. Choosing to install HD assets almost doubles the size of the game folder on your drive, from 45 GB to around 80 GB, so it’s natural that you may be wondering if this optional pack is actually worth it.
Luckily, we are here to answer that exact question. First things first, the truth is that the high-resolution assets for Diablo 4 are definitely not required to experience the game’s graphical beauty. The majority of the users, especially those playing on 1080p screens, may not notice much difference at all, and if you are among them and are having some drive space issues, this feature may as well not be that valuable to you in the long run.
However, it must be said that higher-resolution textures can and will make the game look better, even if you aren’t using a 4K monitor. These textures should also not impact the game’s performance, so the only downsides to downloading them comes down to the aforementioned size on your drive.
How to Install High-Resolution Assets Pack in Diablo 4
As we stated at the beginning, the high-resolution asset pack will be downloaded by default, if you do not untick the box and choose not to install them. If you’ve skipped the option during the game’s download, you can easily download the HD assets whenever you want through the Battle.net launcher. The steps to installing high-resolution assets are as follows:
- Launch your Battle.net client
- Click on the Diablo IV game page
- Click on the cog symbol next to the Play button on the bottom left
- Choose “Modify Install”
- Check the box that says “High-Resolution Assets” and confirm the download, which will start immediately after.
How to Uninstall High-Resolution Assets Pack in Diablo 4
If you’ve played around with the high-resolution assets and decided that they are either not worth the storage space or if your game runs better without them, the uninstall process is as easy as the installation one. You can once again open your Battle.net client and follow the same steps mentioned above, but this time you will uncheck the box that says “High-Resolution Assets” and upon confirming your choice, the assets will be deleted from your drive in a matter of seconds. If then at some point in the future you get a high-resolution monitor or want to give these HD assets another shot, you can always reinstall or uninstall them at your will.
