No one likes reading the word “budget” next to a health care product, as you don’t really want to be cutting corners when it comes to your well-being. However, the iHealth Track Connected Blood Pressure Monitor is truly an exception, bringing great quality in a very affordable package.

We should get one important thing out of the way immediately - this blood pressure monitor is both clinically validated and FDA-approved. This might come as a surprise for a monitor that costs only $39.99. And it is truly surprising, as this is probably the cheapest FDA-approved device on the market.

This is an upper-arm blood pressure monitor with a flexible cuff that fits on arms in the 8.7-16.5 inches range. This should be enough for most people, but the device doesn’t really land into the category of monitors for large arms.

The iHealth Track Connected BP monitor also comes equipped with a backlit LCD screen, which allows for easy viewing of measurements even without a smartphone app. If you do want to view your readings on your phone, however, the monitor has Bluetooth connectivity. Once it’s connected to your smartphone, you can see your readings through the free iHealth MyVitals app.

The iHealth Track Connected monitor’s results are also color-coded - green, yellow, red. This allows older people or people with weaker eyesight to evaluate results more easily. On top of that, this blood pressure monitor can measure your heart rate, too - another rarity among monitors in this price range.

If you’re on a budget and in need of an affordable yet reliable monitor, you can’t go wrong with the iHealth Track Connected. Just don’t expect other devices in this price range to be as good.

If you’ve ever used a blood pressure monitor before, chances are it was an Omron. The company in question is probably the most well-known BP monitor brand, and for a good reason. It’s behind some of the best devices in the market, including the Omron Platinum Blood Pressure Monitor, which we’re reviewing here.

The Omron Platinum model is an upper-arm BP monitor, with the supported arms circumference range being 9 inches to 17 inches. This is slightly above average, meaning it also fits somewhat bigger arms. However, the real winner in the Omron Platinum’s design is its huge dual-display monitor.

The advantages of this sizable LCD screen are multifold. First, it’s backlit, which, coupled with larger display numbers due to screen size, makes for easier viewing of measurements. Additionally, the LCD screen settings allow you to immediately compare your latest readings with previous ones - a great feature for quickly noticing any changes in your pressure and overall health.

The device meets the VDL criteria for accuracy and is FDA-approved. You can rest assured that the blood pressure readings from the Omron Platinum are accurate and consistent. This monitor allows you to store measurements for two users, with a storage capacity of 200 (100 for each user). You can also access your readings through the free Omron Connect app, where they are available in graph and list forms.

This model also ships with a high morning average indicator, which warns you if your systolic or diastolic measurements in the morning are out of normal range. Since morning hypertension puts you at greater risk of a heart attack, a feature such as this is invaluable.

The Omron Platinum blood pressure monitor comes with a six-year warranty, which is a strong indicator of the device’s durability and reliability. As for the price, the Omron Platinum is somewhat pricey, as it costs between $80 and $100, depending on where you buy the product. While costly, it won’t exactly break the bank, especially when you consider all of its capabilities and the six-year warranty.

All in all, the Omron Platinum blood pressure monitor more than met our expectations, bringing top-tier accuracy and many useful features that will make your daily measurements a significantly easier affair.

Blood pressure isn’t a concern solely for older people or people with existing health problems. The “silent killer” doesn’t discriminate by age, meaning it’s good practice for all grown-ups in the household to take regular pressure measurements.

The Beurer BM 26 is an ideal solution for families, as the monitor can save readings for up to four users. However, the storage capacities aren’t exactly impressive: 30 readings per user, 120 in total. Unfortunately, the monitor doesn’t seem to have Bluetooth connectivity that would allow you to store your measurements in the app without typing in the data manually.

This blood pressure monitor comes with an adjustable, automatic cuff. The cuff can fit arms in the 8.7-16.5 inches range, which is fairly standard. The device is clinically validated for accuracy and is as reliable as other Beurer monitors.

The BM 26 can average your last three consecutive measurements, giving you a good middle value for assessing the current state of your health. Besides measuring the mmHg for your systolic and diastolic pressure, you can also get heart pulse rate readings to help detect arrhythmia.

There is a color-coded risk indicator as well, which makes both the reading and the assessment of your results significantly easier. The Beurer BM 26 is battery-powered and comes with a storage bag. This makes it extremely portable, both for traveling and for carrying it around the house, without the worry of needing a power outlet nearby. On top of that, XL cuffs (11.8-16.5 inches) are available as an additional accessory.

The Beurer BM 26 currently goes for $34.99 on Amazon. Pricier variants are also available, each with some sort of useful add-ons like Bluetooth connectivity or talking capabilities. We found the Beurer BM 26 blood pressure monitor to be a great choice for families thanks to its four-user support. However, it does lack things like app support and larger data storage.

Portability is a really important characteristic when it comes to blood pressure monitors. A lot of people can’t risk stopping measurements when traveling, and you can’t always count on having access to a power outlet. That’s why people who tend to travel a lot might want to consider a portable solution with a rechargeable battery. The Withings BPM Connect Wi-Fi Smart is exactly one such device.

The Withings BP monitor comes with a rechargeable battery that can last six months on a single charge. This is pretty impressive and largely removes the hassle of constantly having to recharge the battery.

Of course, the Withings BPM Connect Wi-Fi Smart is both medically-tested and FDA-approved, guaranteeing the quality and precision of this device. The device is neatly packed in a roll when not used and is pretty lightweight as well. This only adds to the monitor’s overall portability.

However, the on-cuff LCD screen size was sacrificed to this compact design. This device looks more like a smartwatch than a traditional BP monitor. While stylish-looking, the LCD screen is very small, displaying only one number at a time. This, of course, prevents you from seeing both the top and the bottom numbers at the same time. Furthermore, the number on the LCD screen could be better visible, making it less than ideal for people with weaker eyesight.

What does help, however, are the color-coded results displayed on the LCD screen. Marked green, red, and yellow, the indicators warn you whether your blood pressure is abnormal, and make reading the results easier for vision-impaired users. Besides measuring your systolic and diastolic blood pressure, the monitor also measures your heart rate.

The device comes with both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, allowing you to easily sync the monitor with the free Health Mate app. While the Withings BPM Connect Wi-Fi Smart blood pressure monitor doesn’t have sizable internal storage (only eight readings), you have unlimited cloud data storage at your disposal through the app.

Unfortunately, the Withings BPM Connect Wi-Fi Smart doesn’t come cheap. On the manufacturer’s website, the monitor currently goes for $99.95, which puts it among the pricier solutions on the market. However, that’s the price of usability and portability this monitor brings to the table, which is practically unmatched by its competitors.

Here we have yet another blood pressure monitor that comes with a large, easily-read LCD screen. The huge screen is extremely well lit, featuring a bright blue background, while measurements and other important data are displayed in huge, white numbers.

This is an all-in-one blood pressure monitor, meaning it comes with myriad extra features. Let’s start with the cuff: It’s extremely comfortable and flexible, being made out of truly quality material. The cuff is suitable for arms ranging in circumference from 8.75 inches to 16.5 inches, which fits the majority of users. On top of that, the Greater Goods Smart Monitor is one of the few ones that start their readings at the beginning of the cuff’s expansion, bringing better accuracy.

The device is also clinically tested for accuracy, so you don’t have to worry about getting warped readings. You can store readings for two users, with a storage of 60 measurements for each. This Greater Goods monitor also comes with Bluetooth connectivity, letting you easily pair it with its proprietary Balance Health free app. When using the app, you can store an unlimited number of results. The app is available for both iOS and Android.

Another area where the Greater Goods Smart Blood Pressure Monitor 0604 excels is power. The device can run on AA batteries or it can be connected to a power outlet. This provides you with a great dose of flexibility. While you’re measuring at home, you can keep it connected via the adapter and save up on batteries, with the possibility to switch to battery power in case you’re traveling.

Besides measuring systolic and diastolic blood pressure, the monitor also measures your heart rate, which is always a great and useful addition.

The device goes for $54.88 currently, which is remarkably cheap for such a feature-packed monitor. If you’d like an all-around device that covers all the bases, we can definitely recommend the Greater Goods Smart Blood Pressure Monitor 0604.

Even the most feature-packed and accurate blood pressure monitor isn’t worth much if you can’t actually read the results. Monitors are mostly used by older people, who often suffer from eyesight issues. Hence, the inclusion of larger, well-lit LCD screens is a very welcome addition.

The Lazle blood pressure monitor definitely ticks this box. Featuring a large black LCD screen, this monitor makes reading the results a breeze. The screen is also extremely well lit and bright, so you won’t have to squint to read the measurement in the daylight.

The device stores up to 200 readings, with a date and time attached to each. This lets you have an easy overview of what your pressure readings were at any given time, without scratching your head trying to remember when you took the measurements. What’s better yet, the Lazle monitor can store results for two users.

Additionally, the monitor comes with an adjustable, large cuff 8-17 inches in circumference. The monitor also comes with automatic cuff detection and wrong-operation reminder icons, which notify you if you’re taking the measurements the wrong way. The device is very easy to use as well - you just need to press Start, and you’ll have your results back in 30 seconds. Besides measuring blood pressure, the Lazle monitor tracks your heart rate - another health indicator that’s often impossible to measure “by feeling,” helping expose arrhythmia.

While bulky, the Lazle Blood Pressure Monitor is actually pretty easy to move around, thanks to a carry bag that comes in the package. On top of that, the device itself is surprisingly lightweight.

As with other blood pressure monitors, this device’s cost can fluctuate significantly depending on where you shop. Still, the cost largely moves between $50 and $70 dollars, which falls into the middle price range.

The Lazle Blood Pressure Monitor’s huge LCD screen and portability, coupled with 200 measurements-strong storage, make for an extremely attractive package.

How To Find the Best Home Blood Pressure Monitor

The ins and outs of blood pressure monitors aren’t exactly common knowledge, especially if you’re just starting to measure. Luckily, there are a few key factors you can keep an eye out for, which make picking the right blood pressure monitor much easier.

Cuff Size and Fit

As we’ve touched upon previously, you should go for upper-arm blood pressure monitors if you want to get the most accurate results. Consequently, we also mainly focused on upper-arm monitors. However, people with bigger arms might have trouble finding the right cuff fit for themselves. In those cases, you might want to check out finger- or wrist-attached monitors.

To find out whether a particular monitor will be a good fit for you, you need to check its maximum cuff size. To do this, you should first measure around your biceps with a measuring tape. Then, compare your arm measurements with the maximum cuff size provided by monitor manufacturers for each model.

Blood Pressure Machine Accuracy

Probably the most important factor to consider when browsing for a blood pressure device is its accuracy. Getting consistent, accurate measurements is paramount for having a good assessment of your health. Inconsistent or inaccurate readings can give you a warped image of your physical condition, potentially leading to a needless change in medication or failing to reveal important pressure changes.

To make sure you get the most accurate blood pressure readings, you should look for devices that carry accuracy certificates.

First, most of the top-class blood pressure machines need to meet the accuracy requirements of the US Blood Pressure Validated Device List. Alternatively, the device should be independently tested for accuracy according to the guidelines by institutions like the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation.

Second, the device you’re eyeing should be FDA-approved.

Another useful way to check the accuracy of your blood pressure meter is to take it with you to the doctor’s office. There, the doctor can measure your blood pressure twice: once with your monitor and once manually. By comparing the two measurements, the doctor can tell you whether your device gives an accurate reading.

Extra Features

Blood pressure monitors can come with a variety of useful extra features. While not mandatory for the monitor’s main functionality - measuring blood pressure - these features can greatly improve the device’s general usability.

Some of the useful features to look out for are:

  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • Proprietary smartphone app
  • Pulse monitoring
  • Irregular heartbeat monitoring

The inclusion of these additional features not only makes using the monitor generally easier but can provide a rich trove of health-related data to help you better assess your physical condition.

Readings Storage

Taking regular blood pressure measurements is crucial because it gives you insight into how your condition fluctuates (or not) during a certain period of time. This is especially important when assessing the effectiveness of a new diet, therapy, or medications. That’s why most monitors come with data storage capabilities for previous measurements.

The available data storage on BP monitors ranges from a few dozen to a couple thousand. Of course, the more the better, but you probably don’t have to throw money at expensive devices unless you really need a high-storage meter.

Additionally, some devices might come with their own smartphone apps that allow you to store and easily view your readings. In most cases, you connect your monitor to the smartphone via Bluetooth.

Pricing

The pricing for blood pressure monitors can vary greatly, depending on the device’s features or capabilities. The cheapest monitors go for as low as $50, while the more advanced models cost upwards of $150.

You shouldn’t race to get the most expensive model available. First, you might not need all of the fancy features some of them bring. After all, the main purpose of blood pressure monitors is to provide accurate measurements - if it can do that consistently, you’re probably settled. On the flip side, you don’t want to get the cheapest device either, as they might not be as accurate or durable. You don’t want to be buying a new model every year, nor do you want a blood pressure monitor that might fail you at a crucial time.

We gave our best to cover products from all pricing categories to provide you with a richer and more flexible choice.

How Do Blood Pressure Monitors Work?

The large majority of BP monitors work in the same way. Once you tie the monitor’s cuff around your upper arm, the monitor inflates the cuff until the blood flow through the brachial artery is temporarily cut off. Then, the pressure is slowly released from the cuff.

While this happens, a sensor located in the cuff starts measuring your blood flow. The point at which the blood starts flowing after the pressure is released is referred to as the systolic blood pressure, which represents the top number in measurements. Diastolic blood pressure, the bottom number, is measured when the blood flow stabilizes from choppy to regular.

The American Heart Association recommends using automatic upper-arm (bicep) monitors as opposed to finger or wrist ones. According to the AHA, finger and wrist blood pressure monitors tend to be less accurate in their readings.
