Xiaomi To Launch Its New Flagship Smartphone on December 28

Xiaomi has recently confirmed through its official Weibo account it will release its new phone lineup called the Xiaomi 12 series on Tuesday (December 28).

Deputy GM of Xiaomi Marketing Zhiyuan Zang shared a post on Twitter on December 21 that featured two phones under the Xiaomi 12 lineup, with a caption saying “Two Flagships.” Currently, it is not known if the new Series 12 will feature as many phone variants as the Series 11. At the moment, two versions are in the spotlight - Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro. It’s rumored that other models, such as 12X 12 Ultra, will also be released but not necessarily announced with the phones we’ve seen in official tweets.

Xiaomi has also disclosed that these new phones would, on release, feature Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and be the first phones to use its new chipset, which promises significant improvements, including better performance, AI features, 5G, camera tech, and security. Users can expect 30% better power efficiency and 20% better performance. The launch event will be live-streamed on December 28 at 7:30 p.m. (Beijing time).

Lei June, Xiaomi’s CEO, has announced that the new series will launch with MIUI 13 based on Android 12.

Some leaks and rumors suggest that the Xiaomi 12 Series phones are to launch with up to three 50-megapixel cameras. This includes ultrawide, primary lens, and telephoto cameras. Furthermore, they are expected to have an in-built periscope lens, supporting up to 5x zoom. The phones will have punch-hole front cameras, as we can see from the images Xiaomi’s PR team has released. It remains to be seen if Xiaomi will include more compact phones in the Series 12.

Currently, Xiaomi’s smartphones are not as popular in the US as they are in Europe - where they maintain their market presence as the second biggest manufacturer - or in the global market, where they are second only to Samsung. The company has managed to increase its market share thanks to affordable phones with specs comparable to those of Samsung mobile devices.
