- Reviewed in the United States on November 22, 2024These drives have performed well since they were installed. No issues with installation and they have performed flawlessly for 8 months in home server through some hot weather. Smart data not reporting any errors so far.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 6, 2022After comparing a number of options and reviews I ultimately decided to go with the 4 TB Hitachi HDD to clone my previous 3 TB drive that was starting to make noises. Very glad I chose this one as it seems a great value for the price vs. some of the other hard disk manufacturers. It is definitely a hair noisier than my old drive was (not by much, honestly) when it was new so if this is a huge concern it might be worth it to you to look at other options. For me this isn’t a deal breaker and I’ve been quite happy with its performance the few months I’ve had it up and running.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2023Have not noticed any noisy operation as mentioned by a few reviewers. This one was made in Philippines. I don't know whether they manufacture or simply assemble there. Since I'm using a nine year-old Linux box, can't get full rated performance out of the drive but it is fast enough for my uses (with one exception). On standard Ext4 Partitions, I get very decent read and write speeds, around half of the rated spd for the drive. Running LUKS encrypted Partitions, however, write speed is painfully slow. I suspect this is mainly due to issues with the operating system (Debian) and the older computer hardware not handling file transfers well on the encrypted drive.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 1, 2021Having bought the older version with 128 Mb cache and being thrilled with its performance I jumped at the chance to get the new one with double the cache for only 4 dollars more. Transfer speeds are great and it's very quiet, silent in fact, I assume those commenting on theirs being load must have gotten defective drives as I said both of mine are completely silent. The only observation I have to make of the 256Mb cache drive is it seems slow to load the first time after a reboot, It performs perfectly after that so isn't an issue for me. All in all I'd highly recommend this drive to anyone needing a reliable, fast and best of all CMR drive.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 1, 2025Bought this a little over a year ago to back up two of the SSDs in my desktop. So far, it does what it needs to do and I haven't encountered any issues. Great price for so much storage.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 21, 2024Works perfect. Using it as a backup to my main hard drive because my computer is ten years old. I will move to whatever new computer I get. Still using my old PC. Hard drive has been good with no errors.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2024When it comes to TB per dollar, you still cant beat a hard drive. I put this in one of my friends computers because he's a gamer and he downloads lots of games. Games these days are getting huge so you need a place to store them all. If you don't want to spend $150 for a 4TB SSD, this is where you should be. It's fast enough for most games, reasonably priced, and fairly quiet as well. It seems some folks have gotten HDD's that have been returned or were of a different line of Toshiba HDD's, but I am happy to report my model numbers matched the box and my friend who is a very avid gamer has had no complaints. Recommended.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2024Bought this in December of 2023, and by the end of January it was already starting to fail. This drive was being used a bulk storage drive in my main system, so it saw daily use, although nothing too aggressive that would have caused what I experienced.
Since day 1, the drive's seek activity was incredibly loud, far louder than the Seagate drive it had replaced. The clicking was noticeable anytime the drive did anything. Annoying, but not a total deal breaker.
HOWEVER, the drive began displaying Uncorrectable Sector Errors by the end of the first month of use. Seeing these kinds of errors so soon is a terrible sign for the longevity of the drive, and it was swiftly returned to Amazon and replaced with a different brand. Will never be buying drives from Toshiba again after this.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Price is Right
These are good drives if you don't mind a little chatter. For me, the sound is comforting. It lets me know the drive is working. I don't mind it. I have an old one that has outlasted so many of my Seagate and WD drives that lately I've been buying more and more Toshiba drives. The test of time is the biggest factor for me. If hearing the drive is a concern then perhaps mechanical drives are not the best choice for the buy who wishes for absolute silence. I don't recommend this drive for gaming. People should not game on mechanical hard drives. What's good about this drive is that it is CMR, which is one of it's best selling features. SMR drives may be cheaper but it has been my experience that they hardly last as long Conventional Magnetic Recording devices.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buen producto

5.0 out of 5 stars New updated Toshiba X300 4TB
I haven't been a Toshiba drive user before, so I though I'd give them a try after reading an online review. I bought two of the updated Toshiba X300 4TB, the main difference from the previous 2019 version of the drive is that the memory buffer has increase from 128MB to 256MB, if you get the 14TB or over version, the buffer is 512MB. Surprisingly, the drives only have a 2 year warranty, I would have like the drives to have a longer warranty like the WD drives have.
The was no instruction in the box, so for new users, please look up how to install new hard disks in your computer and copy data across if you need to.
I have an Samsung SSD as the boot disk and used the Toshiba drives for games storage, film back up etc. I partitioned both drives, to 2TB each, the reason here was to removed 4 older 2TB drives and just have two drives instead of 4 drives. I smoothly transfered all the data across over the course of two days as I wasn't in a rush to do this.
The drives are quicker and quieter, please make sure to tighted the drive retaing screws, there is nothing more annoying than drive vibration and noise from insecure drives.
After benchmarking (CrystalDiskMark) and running games directly from the drive, as a new user of Toshiba drives I'm impressed. I await to test them long term and see how they do, but at the moment, I'm very happy with the drives.

5.0 out of 5 stars El mejor por su precio
